If not, I see no downside. How are you "wasting" a redshirt year if it doesn't count against scholarships and doesn't prevent someone else from redshirting.

Beo has an offer from Washington. He's not a typical walk on.
If there's not a RS limit, I just don't see why you wouldn't use it on guys like Beo or Alan Hamson. That way IF they turn into players who are contributors down the line, you have an extra season of use.
If not, they can go the route of Ian Harward and have an extra year at BYU-Hawaii or something.
