Oregon's starting QB played the first quarter and a half and was benched due to
being ineffective. So they weren't "without their starting QB," they played him, he couldn't do anything against Utah, and then got benched. Coming out of the second half the sideline reporter asked Helfrich about Vernon Adams and Helfrich said it was results-based, not injury related. Obviously there is no reason to throw your QB under the bus if you could use injury as a cop out.
