The issue with the 3-3-5 is that BYU has traditionally be unable to recruit
sufficient depth and numbers in the secondary to compete at high levels. BYU has been more of a LB and DL school, hence the move to the 3-4.
As mentioned above more NFL teams are moving to the 3-4, so if a player wants to be better prepared for the NFL, come to Provo!
