Interesting bit of history on RftG - it is a card game version of Puerto Rico,
which others have enthusiastically recommended elsewhere in this thread (and rightfully so).
PR was reimplemented in two different card games: San Juan and Race for the Galaxy. RftG obviously also includes a dramatic theme change and has itself now spawned a dice game called Roll for the Galaxy.
So Race for the Galaxy is much easier to learn if you've already played Puerto Rico and if you recognize that it is essentially the same game.
