Ok, how about 8-4? 7-5? 9-3? A team on the brink of the playoffs would not benefit from
beating a 8-4 team. Again, if there were 10 indy teams, it would be a great idea.
It would only really benefit BYU every year and ND every once in a while when BYU is good. Otherwise, it doesn't help ND much.

What if BYU is 5-7 one year? That would just hurt them. There aren't enough independent teams to guarantee a good foe
