Yet those impressive stats didn't translate to defensive success for the team

Oregon was atrocious on defense. Utah was excellent. Shouldn't that be considered?

I am trying to think of an analogy. Should a center who is #1 in the NBA in blocks win DPOY award if his team is 2nd to last in defense rankings. What if there is a guard who plays for the 2nd best defense in the league and is top 5 in the league in multiple other categories? Should the blocks simply trump everything else even though it didn't contribute to a dominating defense?
