Tanner is a great QB, and may very well end up being the greatest QB to ever play at BYU going forward, but he is not that yet. And, although he showed plenty of promise last year, he also showed some significant room for improvement, especially in decision making, as would be expected for a freshman. The number of times he missed a wide open guy 3-5 yards beyond the sticks on 3rd down in favor of a long bomb hope incomplete pass down the sideline likely changed the outcome of more than one game last year. In addition, although he looked great for 3 Q's against the Utes, the bad decision making in the 1st Q is largely what made that too-little-too-late comeback necessary.
