Ford's Mustang, Chevy's Camaro, and Dodge's Challenger all have lines and details that tap into their original versions from the 60s. And you can debate whether they've done this because these are the most contemporary designs possible or whether it's pure marketing to tap into the sentiments of the past. The VW Beetle and Mini are two more examples.
What amazes me is that these cars are very good looking cars (in my opinion) independent of their roots. It makes you wonder how American designers (or the marketing executives) could have gone so far astray in the 80s and 90s. Example: the Mustang is an ugly piece of junk from the mid 80s until the mid 90s. It started as a beautiful car and it's returned that way.
AND, these cars are so superior to their ancestors in terms of quality and performance. We are really living through the great years of American hot rods. We'll look back on these years as the great ones the way we look at the 60s. But like I told my son: I could never see a 70s, 80s, or 90s mustang again and be happy but I sure like the originals and the current versions.
