PA route has a lot of upside. Considerably less debt, as you are working in 2.5 yrs as opposed to 7-10 yrs of med school/residency. Some PA's make more than your average pediatrician or family practice doc. You can also switch specialties as a PA. As a doc you are stuck with your specialty so you have to really love what you choose. Also a lot less liability, you practice under the physicians license.

If I could do it over again would definitely think long and hard about the PA route. Med school/residency was brutal, takes its toll on you and your family. Depending on your specialty you could be on call, working long hours and nights for the rest of your career. PA's generally have a pretty nice lifestyle and schedule with likely a lot more flexibility.
