Taysom is living Russell Wilson's story: a comparison
By now all are aware that I favor Taysom returning and starting over an excellent option in Tanner Mangum. I believe that it is a gift as a fan that my team has both top quality QB's on the roster. No team should ever let a player like Taysom get away. Period.

No team should have ever let a player like Russell Wilson get away, either. He graduated early and with a year of eligibility left, he had interests in being a 2 sport pro-athlete and chose to train with the Rockies in the spring instead of spring football. His Coach, Tom O'Brien put his foot down and made him choose. Wilson was granted a release. He sent out feelers to the NFL and found that there was no interest. He signed with Wisconsin and the rest is history. NC State let him go because they had a star as a second option. Mike Glennon was a 4 star QB who went on to amass 7,000 yds and 62 TD's in two years. The team was 15-11 in that period.

I'm sure that fans at NC State argued and bickered about their drama, and it is almost exactly the same as what we are mired in right now. Glennon was good enough that the staff chose him over Wilson (who would miss spring camp). I'm sure they wanted to give Glennon two years. If Wilson stayed, Glennon would have only one year to start. Maybe he would have transferred. Anyone who wants to could cite differences like Taysom's injuries, Mangum's stellar proven FR year, etc if they wanted to argue that these are two different stories. The situation is as similar as anyone will find in sports (potentially).

Those who argue that Taysom would choose to stay only because it would be hard for him to gel and pick up a new system in one year (without a spring camp) can't answer how Wilson did it at Wisconsin. Those who argue that Taysom shouldn't stay at BYU for the same reason: it would be hard to gel and pick up a new system that Detmer installed (without a spring camp) can't answer how Wilson did it at Wisconsin.

Like Wilson, Taysom would find no interest from the NFL at this point. Like Wilson had, he has a few good options to choose from.

My final point: No team should ever let a player like Taysom Hill get away. Period. He is truly a once in a generation QB to a team like BYU. He is the leader. He is the incumbent starter. Tanner was the backup who went in and did an outstanding job. As I have said before, Taysom believes that this is his team. Tanner believes that this is Taysom's team (for now). It is Taysom's team.
