I grew up in Southern California. I can't speak to what they do now, but I assume it's the same today as it was in my youth. In Southern California, young men's church ball consisted of three sports, slow pitch softball, basketball and volleyball. There's no such thing as men's college softball (let alone slow pitch). It seems like we'd have a really good basketball team. But there are a larger number of LDS young men that play volleyball, particularly from Cal.
