And reputation attracts nonLDS
My son plays club and HS in Arizona. In my experience, Mojave's description is accurate.
Last month our HS team played in the Best of the West tournament in San Diego. My wife and I were both wearing BYU shirts when a lady walked up to us and asked, "Did you go to BYU? That is a great university!"

She is not LDS, but her son plays volleyball at BYU. She also had two other children at other universities and kept favorably comparing BYU to the other two. When she found out both of us wentto BYU and we have two children there now, she couldn't stop talking about how much she loves the school. Only then did she start talking about BYU volleyball!

I've had similar experiences at the boy's junior national championships when I wore BYU apparel. Clubs from everywhere recognize BYU volleyball and you immediately get attention. One day at the tournament I had a warmup jacket on and several people assumed I was a BYU coach. For half a second I thought of leading them on, but couldnt' bring myself to be that cruel -- I ended up taking the jacket off after a couple of conversations.
