neither Utah or TCU had the benefit of centers around scheduling. If the Big 12 expands, they would most likely go to an 8+1 scheduling format in the regular season where there are 8 conference games and at least 1 P5 OOC matchup each season. BYU would have the ability to pick and choose which contracts to honor in setting their non-conference schedule of four games each year. If done right, they would be able to guarantee themselves at least 7 home games into the foreseeable future. Being able to guarantee at least 3 quality OOC home games to potential TV partners starting in Year 1 would be a feather in BYU's cap that no other potential candidate could replicate.
All that said, it's too bad that the Big 12 is too stupid to actually invite BYU. It's still going to be Indy + WCC for the long haul.
