ImuaKahuku Walk-on
While serving in Guatemala, My comp and I were teaching a woman and her son. I
gave the first part of the discussion (re: temples, families are forever, etc.). While my companion taught them about tithing and such, I heard a voice as clear a my comp sitting next to me but it was only to my mind and it said "she is worried about herself. She is asking what about me. She is divorced and is worried. Tell her she will be okay. She is loved and need not worry". Because of the voice, I realized that she was a divorced Catholic and was worried that her divorce was a grave sin. She believed that although they would not be married anymore in Heaven they would be able to be an angel and maintain some sort of relationship as friends. After my companion finished I looked her in the eye and told her what the voice told me and she began to bawl like a child. My final words to her were "Sister, I know you are concerned about. He has told me about it and He wants you to know that you are loved and you will be taken care of". It was amazing to be a part of and seeing Him lift such a heavy burden off someone's shoulders. I explained more about what "families are forever" meant and her reaction was that it was exactly how she felt it should be. That it just "felt right". Truly an honor to be a scalpel in the hands of a master surgeon to help remove a cancer that had afflicted someone for so long.
My family was Catholic before we joined the church. Most of the people we know really didn't give much of a thought to it. Most just felt that the goal was to come out of life as an angel and serve God for eternity instead of being stuck with Satan. But they didn't think about family being forever because we were taught that there were no husbands and wives but at the same time most seemed to think or felt that there was more to it. We just didn't know what it was that we didn't know. The famous "its a mystery" answer from those church leaders.
