32 teams would get more fans excited, and would allow the "mid-major" conferences to be involved without taking a spot at the expense of a third place team in one of the power conferences. I think it would create a nationwide buzz comparable to the hoops tourney, identifiable underdogs etc., and would draw in more casual fans...
