I think the fervor surrounding out of conference

games in the postseason would outstrip the fervor for OOC games at the beginning of the season, when most teams don't even know what they have. 8 conf games, +1 OOC reg season game, plus win or go home = much more excitement... plus the teams not selected could still have an OOC bowl game.
