Taysom wanted BYU in HS. He showed up at junior day in the summer of 2007. He heard from his coach that Anae had no idea who he is i.e. he made zero impression on the coaching staff. He literally heard nothing from BYU. Taysom then explored his other options and had 6 offers (Boise State, PAC 12, etc.) in hand by the time BYU got back around to him. In the mean time, BYU had already offered Josh Nunes and Tate Forcier and Jamie Jensen (all top recruits that season).

This was at the peak of Bronco's tenure. The coaches were trying to capitalize on Beck and Hall's success by going after the national QB recruits plus they were talking to Heaps in the subsequent class. Taysom was their backup option. BYU struck out on the national level recruits and came back around to Taysom eventually after he felt snubbed by BYU.

The LDS Coach Anderson at Stanford made a solid pitch to Taysom while he was on radio silence with BYU. This was back when Stanford was a bad team. His pitch worked and Taysom signed. When asked about it, Doman said he forgot to review the film.
