I thought his punch and behavior deserved more than a game. Not sure what that has to do with this discussion. I know it's obviously not a popular opinion on this board.
Baylor suspended Britney Griner 2 games for a punch and the NBA often suspends players 2 games or more for strikes to the head and neck. They say this:
"The fact that you may feel provoked by another player is not an acceptable excuse. If a player takes it upon himself to retaliate, he can expect to be subject to appropriate penalties."
I don't like punches being thrown in games. But again, it's not really my point here in this discussion. And a 11-game football season is also different from a 30 or 82 game basketball season in terms of suspension time so that also has to be taken into account. A 1 game suspension in football is essentially a 3-game suspension in basketball.
