I remember as missionary in California years ago there was some serious flooding in my area. We spent a couple weeks helping people clean up. I remember going into these huge, beautiful homes where the family had lost everything. No flood insurance. They were devastated and so humble and grateful for our help.
A few years ago my stake was asked to provide help to cleanup in NYC after Sandy and I went down. It was a cool experience to help. I ran into a guy from FEMA and he was just so amazed and grateful for all the Church's relief efforts.
I'm so grateful that I had those experiences. It is neat to see that we really can make a difference.
