Growing up in Houston, I remember my dad going to help with several of these projects over the years. He came home and talked about how they all went to Sacrament Meeting in their work boots, and then they went to work. He talked about how they showed up at these flooded neighborhoods and ripped everything out of the houses, down to the studs. Furniture, appliances, photos, everything. I remember seeing the pictures of houses with water up to the roof, and then later there were more pictures of those neighborhoods with giant piles of flood-soaked carpet and drywall piled up in front of each house. I was never called upon to participate myself, but those remain as some of my most humbling and reverent memories of growing up on the Gulf Coast. I have a great respect for those who participate in that type of service. Thank you for representing the Church well.
