When is a catch complete? If I threw you a fastball and you jabbed your hand up

into the air and the ball hit you right in the palm we'd all say "nice catch!" We wouldn't wait until you brought the ball down and grasped it with your other hand, because you already caught the ball. Now, if the ball hit your palm and was bouncing around, then yeah, we wait until you had control of it - whether with one hand or two.
