Ed Lamb and Coach Sitake have managed the games well in my opinion so far this season, so I was really surprised to see such a strange call. 4th and 19 on our own two yard line and we call a fake punt? Even if Linehan got past that first level, he's still being asked to outrun BSU's punt coverage team for 30 yards. That's just never going to happen.

My only thinking is that the coaches must have seen a big vulnerability on film. I'm guessing they must have noticed that when BSU goes for a punt block, they load up the punter's right side (especially if the punter normally rolls out that direction). They must have been very, very consistent with this scheme on punt blocks. Now, keep in mind they called a timeout right before this play. They must have said, if they are showing this specific punt coverage, then pull it in and run to the left, which should be mostly wide open. This is the only explanation I can think of. It wasn't a miscommunication..it was the play coming out of the timeout.

The problem is that even if it did happen like that, Johnny has to run 30+ yards and he'd have to outrun all these fast punt coverage guys to get the first down. It's just crazy, especially since Johnny isn't really fast.

I'm really trying to get into the coaches' heads, but I'm still just not seeing it. Luckily it all turned out alright and BSU got 0 points off this odd decision, so it had no impact. Still scratching my head though
