There seems to be an assumption that being a fan requires one not to engage in
critical thought and inquiry. Actually that is completely false. I am a fan of many teams. All have their good seasons and their bad seasons. When things are not going well, it is quite common, traditional, and appropriate to engage the teams' play and decisions critically. What is disloyal is to stop hoping for improvement, to cheer against the team, to hope for misfortune against a player or coach (not their removal but hoping them ill), or to engage in personal attack beyond their play.
Critical thought is also appropriate for a fan board. It is perfectly appropriate for fans to post critiques of play, of decisions, of directions, and of personnel according to their play. It is appropriate to counter other's arguments as well with opinion, logic, stats, reason, interpretation, observation, analysis, and even speculation. But what I find inappropriate is arguing against a fan's right to have a differing opinion or to suggest that doing so makes them not a fan.
I believe that the team should try playing Tanner. I observe deficiencies in Taysom's and the offense's play that I believe warrants trying Tanner. That is my opinion based on my experience. Anyone should feel free to counter that argument on its merits but not on my ability to have that opinion, on the question of my loyalty as a fan, on a personal attack on my intelligence or a gross mischaracterization or over-generalization of a group of fans for such an opinion, or on labeling such an opinion as some arrogant presumption of knowing more than the coaches. It is simply my right as a fan to hold a critical opinion and to express it. I recognize that many hold contrary opinions and I respect the rights of such fans to hold and express such views and to argue in support.
