My BIL offers his services to the U's athletic programs and before the season started he had a barbecue and invited the football staff and Dr Hill. Whit and Hill are fine the whole squabble was about getting more money for his assistants. Hill has never wanted to get rid of Whit in fact in his contract if he wins 8 games or more his contract gets extended another year. They are not best buddies by any means but when Whitt was offered the Tenn job Hill asked Eccles if he could help they U match their offer. If he wanted Whit gone he would not have done that. Hill knows what he has in a coach and he will keep Whit their for a long time.
As for his comments Whit and Hill do not want to play BYU they do not see the point in continuing the game. Whit would rather play games in the areas they recruit like Florida, Texas, California, and Northern CA. Hill does not want to play BYU because we can play another team that we have never played like bringing in Michigan at home or a team that will bring fans from out of State.
The only reason why this game is continuing is because of the threats from the State Legislature to cut funding from the academic side if they do not play BYU.
The same happened in basketball and the agreement was struck for a neutral site games at the Vivant arena.
