Honest question: Does he not know enough people at BYU to help him sort this out

before resorting to shaking his head on twitter?

I would have to think that there are plenty of people in the AD that would help him out and give him a clear indication of why or why not he would be allowed to finish his degree. Maybe I'm giving BYU too much credit...
