For making them the weirdos. In reality, I like that my teenagers have phones. Way easier to communicate when they are out on the weekends with friends, to check in during the day to see how school is going etc. unfettered freedom to apps and the internet is disastereous but parents can be smart and help teens avoid a bunch of issues.
