No, I don't think so.
Think of the passing game. In a pro style, you're going to have a lot of option routes. So the QB and WR have to "see" the same thing. Remember, it's not just the talent below the ears that is talent; it's above, too.

The spread and its variations rely on the scheme and coaching, much less than than the talent. You can scheme your fourth best wr on their fourth best corner. Who's gonna win? The fourth WR. You can move guys around. Yeah u can run a series of fakes. Or in the read option, you can FORCE the defense into playing vanilla.

All the while, the thinking is either pre set for the players, or very minimal.

I'll give you a good example. In Leach's spread, which isn't much like the old byu offense as much as cb thinks it is. The key for the QB, mostly due to scheme, is the FS. They'll get into four or five wide, and let's say that puts you in a cover 3 where you're getting the SS low. He goes all goes. Now the QB locks in on the safety high, and based on where he goes, the QB goes the other way. Again, you're assuming (should happen) your worst guy can beat his worst, especially if that's a linebacker.

Now let's say they play two high safeties. Motion tells you the coverage, and rather than going all goes, you pull guys on crossers because you're clearing out, and they're in man, chasing. Again, their worst guy on your worst. Even easier, you put your best in the slot, and their worst is on your best.

This all gets dictated by the coach, not the players. Pro style doesn't allow for this. Everyone has to work, and win. Spread only needs one to win.
