This is what happens to coaches at normal schools that care about winning:

Mark Gottfried has been more successful than Dave Rose during the past six years where he has amassed:

-Four 20-win seasons in the ACC
-Four legit NCAA tourney appearances (None of them being first four appearances)
-Two NCAA round of 32 appearances
-Two Sweet 16 appearances

He did all of that in the ACC, which is arguably the toughest basketball conference in the country. Also of note is the fact that he has an Elite 8 appearance from his days at Alabama, and an NCAA championship as an assistant coach with UCLA. But after two down years that failed to meet expectations, he is gone because the direction of the program actually matters to a lot of people.

This is why it amazes me that BYU coaches seemingly get an infinite pass and that the common chorus from many fans is, "But we can't do any better than this coach, so why try?"
