While Parker was a longer shot, he was an LDS kid with talent and a friendly disposition towards BYU. Does Howard ever get that kind of consideration from a blue chip talent? I doubt it. After all, they have two NCAA appearances all time. Frank Jackson was a BYU commit. Duke got him, but Duke does that to everyone. These are athletes that are within grasp or close depending on when they mature among other things.
We had a NPOY within the last 10 years. Not a lot of programs do that.
I'm not saying we have the strongest recruiting or no limitations, but we have a solid floor of talent and an occasional player with a high ceiling in collegiate basketball (Cosic, Ainge, Durrant, Smith, Hansen, Fredette, Davies, etc.). Depending on timing, we can be very good, but regardless of timing, we are a consistently competitive program that makes the tournament more than it misses it.
