The 5-10 guy gives you good shots that don't tune into fast breaks, is most likely getting fouled, giving him FT opportunities, as well as fouling the other team out.
There is also a different standard for shooting from outside and shooting inside. Bigs shouldn't be less than 50% when they're shooting inside. 3 point shooting % obviously has a lower bar for succes.
This is just another example as to why some old school numbers are so much better than analytics. Basketball isn't baseball. There is so much more going on that isn't captured in basketball.
While you did say "by itself", you also said it was essentially worthless, or something like that. It clearly is not. I don't think we disagree too much here, though. All the numbers bring something.
