Rise Against All-American
Way too early predictions based off of day 1 spring camp
A slow day at work due to all of this snow has allowed me to browse all of the spring camp videos and articles. I am so amped up for this upcoming season. I was really excited this time last year for the new coaching staff and to see what they could do. After seeing the changes they made last year and the wins we had, I can't wait to see what they do this year. With the schedule we have, I hope they take a big step forward.
There have been some great posts so far today breaking down all the positions, so I'd like to just post some of my thoughts on the keys to success for this fall.

QB- I think we have very few questions about Tanner at QB. From what the coaches were saying today, Tanner is on the same page as Ty and is looking really good.
O-line- We are returning a ton of starters and actually are developing some good depth to help us in case of injuries. In the past injuries have really hurt us. I don't think that will be the case this year. I'd really, really like to see the group improve their pass protection this year and maintain their good run blocking that they provided last year. I'm predicting that Tejan is an All American and is in the running for the Outland Trophy (edit- Remington Award).
Wr- I think we see Trinneman have a season this year very similar to Hoffman or Collie. I predict that he and Tanner are going to be connecting often. I also predict that Beau Tanner and Hifo will emerge as legitimate options for Tanner and will be quite productive.
TE- I'd like to see consistency from one or two guys at this position every game. I'd hate to see them disappear for a few games in a row like last year. I loved it when Taysom would connect with a TE up the middle for a big game at crucial times. I say let's keep that going this year.
RB- aside from LB this is the position where we have the greatest quality depth. I foresee that Squally will be the main load carrier with Burt being the #2 guy early on and Ula surpassing him about mid season. I think with the improved passing game we won't need to rely as much on the RB's like we had to rely on Jamaal. Also, with our improved d-line we won't have to worry about playing as conservative this year like we had to last year. The coaches didn't want to put too much strain on our thin defensive corps, so they intentionally called an offense that would grind it out and not risk too many 3 and outs.
Punter- I am actually really excited for Linehan this year. He was really impressive last year and was quite the weapon for us when playing the field position chess match and I see that being even more effective this year.
The two leaders on offense will be Tejan and Tanner.

Defense
Dline- The coaches made it very apparent that dline talent and depth was their top priority in recruiting and they brought in some tremendous talent and depth. They really beefed up the trenches (especially defensive tackle) on the defense which will pay big dividends. We were very thin there and struggled to get pressure on opposing qb's last season and as a result our db's were required to cover for way too long. Having said that, I was incredibly impressed with how well our young db's played. Mad props to Gilford and Lamb. I'm predicting that we don't see any one d-lineman stand out head and shoulders above the rest this year, but as a group they will be very effective and very nasty.
lb- Butch and Fred are going to benefit from the improved d-line play and are going to be our main play makers on defense. They are going to get a lot of love from NFL scouts.
cb- Warner and Dayan are going to be the two main guys here, but with experienced guys like Shelton backing them up, it's going to allow our safeties more freedom and flexibility.
safety- Hanneman is going to take a big step forward this year. I still am very curious who is going to play alongside Hanneman. Who is going to emerge as the go to guy?
Leaders on defense are going to be Fred Warner and Buth Pauu.

Due to our schedule, I predict our defense takes a step back in overall defensive ranks but will still be a top 25 defense against the run (instead of top 10 like last year). We will however take a big step forward in pass defense. Our offense will look so much smoother and crisper than last year in the passing game. It's going to resemble more of the offenses of old under Lavelle. I can't wait for that spring scrimmage to see these guys in action.
