It was a perfect move at the right time
Even though we didn't have any lead to hold onto, when we went to holding the ball to reduce their number of possessions it had a psychological effect on the Zags. They reacted by going into a sense of urgency to quickly score and that led to them making mistakes.

We fortunately were able to keep scoring on our possessions and start building a little lead. Each possession increased their urgency as they were further behind each time they got the ball. And they kept making mistakes and failing to score. The mistakes got worse as they got further behind and the clock ran out.

So BYU scored the last ten points of the game and won by eight. Had the Zags dealt with our slow down by maintaining their game they could have avoided the falling behind and the growing desperation. They're not used to being behind in the second half and they weren't able to deal with it.
