Harvey Langi's mission president handled a lot of the contact issues fod him, if I remember correctly. I am very good friends with the couple missionaries that served in the mission office of his mission at that time, and it was pretty chaotic when the news leaked. A lot of media and press wanted statements from him and the mission president, but the Mission President answered all questions or referred them to his family and BYU. It is not that uncommon to discuss your future plans post mission, with your mission president. I know of a few elders that had ours send reference letters to schools, as they applied for entrance into different programs.
