I don't think anyone debates that the US in general had major issues with racism
during this time period. But it was uncommon by the 1960s and 1970s for a Christian church, especially a global one, to have explicitly racist policies like we did, outside of some fringe groups mainly in the Deep South. And 1978 was a pretty late date for racial integration to have occurred, by almost any standard.
