This kid is so athletic but never really emerged or showed it on the court. He thinks of himself as a star but never proved it in AAU or HS. He would be a really nice complementary piece on a team. He is going to Utah thinking he will be a star and start from day 1. He may, but I don't see this as a loss of a high level kid.
He would have been a nice piece at BYU because he brings so many things that the Cougars don't have. He could be an Anson Winder type as a 3 and D role player. But, he was never going to beat our Haws, Emery or Bryant as the go-to scorer and best player on the team. I think that is where both BYU and Popoola cooled in their interest. BYU doesn't need an immediate impact 30 MPG starter. Utah does.
So he may have been a nice piece. But, if he is not willing to be that 8th guy for a year or two and work to improve like Winder did, then I don't want him. Good luck at Utah. I don't expect him to thrive and he will probably transfer in a year,
