I like to be nice and friendly, but I end up having to say no to people just by nature of my job as the command lawyer.

Combine that with my inability to read a room or pick up on social cues that others apparently understand much better than I, and I end up being rude or curt with people. I often don't know that I'm doing it unless somebody tells me after the fact though, so I end up making enemies of people I was not even trying to be mean to.
