Look, the guy saved our program after all the "Crowton recruits" issues on and off the field. He brought honor back to the program. He gave us arguably the most memorable wins ever over Utah. Three times I watched him dagger the Utes in the closing moments. He spoke often about his faith, his love for the gospel, and his expectations of players in his program, while at the same time gave us several 10 plus win seasons, with victories over Oklahoma, Nebraska, Utah, etc...He hated Utah, had absolute disdain for Kyle and all the shenanigans they pull up there. He couldn't even look KW in the eye. I sit here all day and read post after post about how bad the "Yewts" are, well Bronco felt that way too. His own star QB even went off on the famous I hate Utah rant, and I don't recall Bronco being too appalled or apologetic.

So, it's just odd to me that after all he did for this program, including walking away on his own accord when the fanbase was turning on him, that we find the need to put him down and pretend that we had "the worst coach in America." Whoever lived through the last few Crowton years knows what a mess the off field deal was in this program. He went after the wrong recruits for the "BYU way" and even worse was not having on field success either. Bronco came in and changed that culture and was still able to bring in and mentor guys like Ziggy, Van Noy, and Jamal.

So while we can celebrate Kalani, and his "new approach" it's apples and oranges from what Bronco inherited. And let's let Kalani coach a few years and see if he can even match the success that Bronco had before we crown him "the greatest ambassador, coach, insert whatever."

I hope Kalani can be the next Lavell and have that success, but I can do that without sticking my thumb in Bronco's eye every chance I get, while completely ignoring his MASSIVE positive effect on the program, 10 win seasons, and most importantly the character and lack of off the field shenanigans of his recruits.
