Data
Bronco won 69% of his games over his 11 year career.

Lavell won 68% of his games over the last 15 years of his career (post-1984).

Kalani won 69% of his games during his single year at BYU.

Gary Crowton won 52% of his games during his 4 year career at BYU.

Bottom line: I believe a good coach will win between 65-70% of their games at BYU considering all of the coaching challenges (honor code, cold climate, non-P5 affiliation, academic standards). A bad coach will win a lot less than that.

All of the hand-wringing on both sides of this argument is simply noise. Kalani appears to be a good coach, but he won't win more than 70% of his games during his career at BYU. His recruiting classes will look similar to the classes under Bronco and Lavell. And the NFL numbers will look similar to what they did under Bronco and Lavell. Those are my predictions; would love to be proven wrong.

We are who we are and other then nuances with how the coaches speak to the media and fans, I don't think the results will be any different in the long run between Kalani, Bronco, or Lavell.
