Back in high school a friend and me were out rabbit hunting near five mile pass.
We were taking a breather and noticed a brown hawk circling high overhead. We took a few shots at it with out .22's thinking we could never hit it.

Well....one of us did. It folded its wings and slowly spiraled down to the ground. We ran over to where it landed. It was a big bird and we had all these grand ideas of cutting its claws off and getting some of the feathers off of it (thinking what else do you do with that kind of bird?)

So we are driving home with it in the back of my pickup. It is covered by a blanket. Traffic starts slowing ahead and we notice Fish and Wildlife stopping people and asking questions. Apparently it was the Dove hunt and they were doing checks to make sure people had licenses, etc.

When they stopped us they asked what we were doing and we told them we were rabbit hunting. They didn't give us a second thought and let us get on our way. Stupid teenager move shooting at the hawk, killing it, then taking it. I still think back on that experience. To this day I still can't believe we hit that bird.
