Most studies show the best results come from a combination of medications and counseling.
The key is that everything is so individualized that you have to be patient in finding what works for any one individual. That may look completely different for diff people and even at diff times. There are good meds with fewer side effects now. Make sure it's monitored carefully and adjusted as needed.
There's no shame in changing counselors if you don't hit it off with one. Studies show that rapport between client & therapist is most important factor in counseling success. You should always make sure counseling includes everyday coping strategies and lifestyle tips for long term improvements.
