True, both Mika and Davis allowed opponents to receive the pass much too close
...to the basket. Davis was marginally better, but it was a major flaw in both of their defensive games.
Length is important, and both Mika and Davis were above average blockers, but inside positioning and using the body to keep opponents out of the paint is even more important. That is largely why both Mika and Davis were mediocre defenders.

Understood. People felt that way about Davis also, but length matters on D and it looks more like they will play small
