Florence...Old school Oregon Coast
Due west of Eugene only 45 miles or so inland so could go to some cool places in Eugene too.

Siuslaw River has a tidal flow and perfect drift boat fishing. Florence is less trafficked than Newport, smaller and kind of a time warp with no real big changes I've noticed in 40 years. Has one of those cool old depression era stone bridges thrown across the bay--smaller than Newport's but just as beautiful.

Oregon Dunes City with some of the best dune riding anywhere--ocean dunes--sandrail ride vendors that can scare you to death with ultra powerful machines. You can rent quads very easy to have them delivered or immediately available at beach access points.

I like VRBO and can get a place on the beach or on the bay or even along the shore of several beautiful inland freshwater lakes some with waterskiing.

Best lighthouse on the Coast at Heceta Head and cape perpetua runs north with beautiful waysides wave features and breakwaters.

Sea lion caves I've never grooved on.

Can head north small distance to get to the "Capital of the Oregon Coast" Newport. Hatfield Acquarium that was expanded years ago to house the Free Willy whale Keiko--now long gone.

Glassblowing, horseback ride vendors and Dunes City has miles of wide and broad flat beaches that allow quads, and campfires.

Biggest Tip of all. If you can swing it go immediately after Labor Day. All of western Oregon and especially the Coast has perfectly sunny and clear and realiably warm/hot weather in September and October. Bonus that crowds thin out considerably.
