The day I start to think like you do is the day I start dying.

Maybe it's because I'm still finishing my undergrad and haven't had my hopes and dreams crushed by the cruel world, but I still believe talking like this is defeatist and cowardly. I am not trying to offend or insult you, I am just passionate about the subject.

If I ever think there is no chance of BYU finding a way to be a consistent top-tier team (as your OP suggests), I will become nothing more than a casual fan. It's doable. Right now, there is tons of untapped potential in top LDS recruits. We only get a small portion of them right now, smaller than we have in the past. A lot of that has to do with losing to Utah, and quite a bit has to do with being a consistently pretty good (but never great) team under the last several years of Bronco's regime. Obviously, it will be difficult but if BYU can start putting together winning seasons with wins over teams like LSU, MSU, Wisconsin, and, of course, the yewts, we can start getting a larger and larger portion of LDS recruits, leading to better seasons and perpetuating the cycle. Eventually, we will get to the point where we are getting excellent recruits who are not LDS but fit in with the values (Warner brothers and Jamaal types).

Then excellence will be attainable. It will not be easy. We have to somehow overcome the chicken-egg problem of wins -> top recruits -> wins, but I believe. Have some faith in our coaches, Tom Holmoe, and the other folks that may this program what it is.
