already G5 level is false. And it's impossible to join a G5 conference and play 4 P5 teams. That's just not reality. We've been there an done that, so we know from experience what those schedules will look like.
I'm not really trying to come across as bluntly as it might sound, but I just don't understand this line of thinking. We have as many as 7 P5 games in a season built in to future schedules. If we go G5, we'd have UofU and Utah St on the schedule every year, leaving just one opportunity to add another second P5 team to the schedule. Maybe things line up and we play 3 in a season occasionally. So that's 2 or 3 P5 teams compared to the 5-7 we're currently scheduled to play. It's a world of difference. Our inventory of home games with some big-time programs coming in allows BYU to operate at an entirely different level as a program than any G5. We dwarf any G5 in revenue, attendance, facilities, history, etc. To me, it seems silly to voluntarily rejoin the have-nots. In my opinion.
BYU has already dominated the G5 ranks as a program, and we did so over a long period of time. We've moved on. We have bigger goals in mind. Reaching those goals will not be easy, but nothing worthwhile ever is.
