There's a story of an old guy who lived just inside the border of a small town. He
liked to sit on his porch in the evening. One day a family drove by and stopped to talk. Their car was loaded down with belongings and a couple kids. They told the man they were looking for a new to move to with the family and asked if this was a nice place. He asked what their old town was like.

They said is was a horrible place where people gossiped and no one treated their children fairly. Some people were arrogant and judgmental. He replied that this town was exactly like that and he was sure they wouldn't be happy there at all. They drove along.

The next week another family stopped with a similar story and question. This time when asked about their former town, the couple said they were sad to be moving. A job relocation required the move. The people in their old town were warm and generous folks who did their best to be friendly and live a good life. The old gentleman smiled and said this town was just like that. He encouraged them to move there and welcomed them on behalf everyone.

We never dreamed we'd live in Utah Co but here we are for the last 15 yrs. We've also liked living in DC, Columbus OH, Davis Co, Lindon and recently Provo. Every town will have a variety of people but at the end of the day, most are just doing their best. You're a member of every community where you live. How do you help define it?
