I will say that I check the local obituaries weekly and obsessively try to determine the cause of death for anyone <40.
Maybe that's very similar to what you experience, but I don't take any joy in it. But I do feel compelled to check weekly-ish.
In case anyone is interested, I'm sad to report that about 80% of the 'under 40' deaths around here are suicide/drug overdose. That's shocking to me.
