conference. It would be just like the MWC before TCU/Yewtah/BYU left the conference...
Look at the teams that would usually sit atop the AAC in football, assuming the AAC added AFA, Boise, BYU, and SDSU :
- Boise
- BYU
- Cincinnati
- Houston
- Memphis
- SDSU
- UCF
- USF
Every conference needs the cellar-dwellers. The AAC is no different. Plus, by having two 8-team divisions, travel and internal cannibalization of the top teams beating each other, such as what you see in the PAC 10+2, would be minimized. While it's not "P5", it's definitely "P6", would kill the MWC, and put a significant distance between the AAC and the CUSA/MAC/MWC/SunBelt. I'd much rather see BYU play conference games against AFA, Boise, Houston, Memphis, SDSU, SMU, Tulsa in division and say ECU and Navy out of division than exhibition games against the likes of Portland State, UMass, Hawaii, Fresno, etc. etc. etc. This also ignores the fact that the AAC is a significant upgrade to the WCC in basketball.
Seriously, I would much rather play a meaningful 8 or 9-game AAC schedule + Yewtah + USU + P5 + Any non FCS team than what BYU is doing now (Yes, I know with a 9-game conference schedule, there would normally only be 3 OOC games).
