I would console him like I do as a parent.

THis has to be one of the most dumb questions I have seen asked. Do you even have kids? if yes, Do they play sports? What do you tell them when their team is not doing well?

YOU FRICKIN SUPPORT THEM, at least that is what my opinion a parent should do.
