Partly true
We were poor against Portland State right out of the gate. It seemed to catch the whole coaching staff by surprise. Did the loss of Moroni ruin our offense? Maybe that was a factor, the bigger problem seemed to be a very uncomfortable quarterback. Tanner just seemed totally uptight. It never really changed until right before he got hurt at Fresno St.

The other factor against Portland was decent corners. It seems all you need to beat BYU is good man corners and we are shut down. Stack the box play physical man coverage with your corners and we are shut down. Portland State could even do it. If we want to improve we have to be able to beat this type of defense. We will never beat Utah or a decent defense until this is fixed.

After that game, injuries started to pile up. A couple big losses and confidence was completely gone. The young offensive skill players lacked leadership and confidence. It finished off a mediocre offense. They ended up being historically bad.

Not sure how much of this is a coaching problem. There is enough blame to go around. At this point it is a total mess.
