Every time someone suggests Darrell Bevell, for example (or Lance Anderson) wants to take an enormous pay cut to coach at BYU because it is every Mormon’s dream job, I just roll my eyes.
Not all (or even most) U.S. Mormons even dream of attending BYU, let alone giving up millions of dollars to work there.
Which is why we in large degree rely on former players to fill out our coaching staffs. They went to BYU and are perhaps more swayed by the stuff you’re talking about.
Ever since coaches salaries went through the roof 15 years ago and BYU decided it wanted to stay in the 90’s, it has had to rely more and more on those types of benefits to attract candidates.
